Dana Indane-Surkiene (Latvia/Lithuania) is a free voice improviser, singer and author of
various voice courses.
Dana’s vocal performances combine intuitive and contemporary voice improvisation,
abstract sound paintings with extended voice techniques, as well as lyrical and ethno
chants. The music created by Dana reflects subtleness and sensitivity of human inner
world, but also reveals aspects of the wild nature of a woman.
Her most recent music projects include music album “Songs of Mother and Field /
Gaidību dziesmas” together with field recording artist Maksimš Šenteļevs, and also
creating music for theatre and performance art productions in cooperation with beatbox
and throat singing artist Arvis Kantiševs (project “Balssbalss”). She also regularly
performs in free improvisation concerts with various musicians from all over the world.
Since 2010 Dana has been conducting trainings on developing and releasing the voice
in Latvia, abroad and online. She is also continuing the path of self-discovery through
meditation, mindfulness and therapeutic soul practices, as well as with the tools of the
realm of psychology and performing arts.
In 2018 Dana organized the music section of “Būtība” festival and sang in the big
improvisation concert. In 2021 she performed at the festival within impro – ethno –
beatbox duo “Balssbalss” (“Voicevoice”), in 2022 she had a solo concert in festival
“Songs of Mother and Field”.
On June 23 rd , 2023 she is giving an intuitive improvisation concert “Connectedness” /
“Saslēgums” together with Mitsch Kohn and other musicians of “Būtība” festival.
